STAMPEDE CRUSH CANTON’S PERFECT DREAMS
Pedro Salas threw for 227 yards and a pair of touchdowns as St. Louis denied Canton’s quest for an undefeated season with a 22-6 shutdown of the Crush. For Canton, it was just one of those nights as the Crush turned the ball over 4 times and found themselves held to 215 yards by the Stampede defense. In some ways, it was the perfect trap game for Canton with a Week 15 date against Glendora with home-field advantage through the playoffs possibly riding on the outcome. Elsewhere around the league…
Talons 27, Snappers 12…Anthony Dunn rushed for 112 yards on 15 carries while Tallahassee QB James Herrin fired three touchdown passes in the win. The Talons held the Snappers off the scoreboard for the first half, building a 17-0 lead at intermission.
Americans 54, Bandits 0…Rochester scored touchdowns on its first four possessions and never looked back in a blowout win. Michael Love needed just 13 carries to amass 130 yards and a TD along the ground. Alexander Thomas finished 20-for-24 through the air, finishing with 4 TD’s. The Bandits have now gone 12 consecutive quarters without scoring points.
Dragons 34, Wallabies 12…Joe Mauer threw for 335 yards and 4 TD’s, including a pair to Jeffrey Titus as the Dragons rolled past Perth, despite the Wallabies owning a 17-minute edge in time of possession. Of course, when the offense averages 22+ yards per completion, you don’t need to hold the ball for very long…(GG GrandadB!)
Wild 22, Tennessee 10…Mitchell Taylor took a completion 69 yards for a score and George Gandy added five field goal kicks as the Wild slipped past Tennessee by a dozen. John Richardson finished with 330 passing yards for Milwaukee.
Burn 20, Golden Pterodactyls 13…Boise used a 17-6 second half to slip past Star City and eliminate the Golden Pterodactyls from postseason possibilities. Jason Moreira ran for a 2-yard score early in the second half while James Salazar hauled in a 3-yard TD reception late in the period to account for the game-winning score.
Islanders 17, Bombers 10…John Lamm’s 5-yard TD run with less than 2 minutes to play gave Hawai’I its first and only lead of the game as the Islanders escaped with a 17-10 win. Hawai’I outscored Brooklyn 14-0 in the second half. Lamm finished with 117 all-purpose yards for the Islanders.
Coyotes 24, Hefty Buffalo 6…Mt. Washington continues its quest for postseason football with a 24-6 win over Fort Drum. Fred Coleman threw a trio of touchdown passes, including a pair of first-half strikes to Daniel Olmos to give the Coyotes the win. Coleman finished with 280 yards passing.
Crusaders 9, Red Rocks 6…The second meeting had all of the drama, but almost none of the scoring of the first encounter, but once again California was able to edge past Coos Bay. In doing so, the Crusaders locked themselves into the playoffs as the Landry Division champion. The Red Rocks remain alive in the Stripes Conference wildcard hunt.
Geechee 23, Thunder 12…Rushing touchdowns from John Riley and Young Dodson helped the Geechee explode for 17 fourth-quarter points and break away from a 6-6 tie heading into the final 15 minutes of football. Charleston clings to a half-game lead in the Gibbs Division.
Marauders 10, Wampas 3…Reno’s George Spradlin ran in from 4 yards out for the game’s only touchdown midway through the third quarter. From there, the Marauders’ defense made matters hold up to keep Aspen searching for the season’s first win. The Wampas’ offense did not cross midfield in the final 22 minutes of the contest.
Cobras 19, Riptide 12…Chad Walker pulled in a 1-yard TD reception from Larry Dearth and Cobra kicker Herman Kramer was good on 4 field goal attempts to lift Rancho Cucamonga over San Diego. Yardage-wise, the game was balanced with San Diego holding a slim 287-286 edge, but the Riptide couldn’t compensate for four turnovers in the contest. Dearth finished with 203 passing yards.
Assassins 23, Kings 7…Raymond Jackson returned an interception 54 yards for a touchdown as part of a 20-point first half, helping Columbus City improve to 8-6 on the year and keep alive the Assassins’ hopes of a spot in the playoffs. Benjamin Rojas’ 104-yard kickoff return for a score accounted for the only points from Lyon.
Spartans 32, Bulldogs 17…Willie Coyne threw for 330 yards and 3 TD’s as the Spartans slipped past Bennington. David Sisk threw for 383 yards for the Bulldogs, but couldn’t overcome 4 interceptions. Dewayne Gaulke hauled in 105 yards worth of receptions, including a TD, for Toronto, which has now clinched the Halas Division.
Witches 48, Twisters 3…Any hope Arkansas had of a second-half rally withered beneath a four-touchdown flurry by Salem in the third quarter. Roy Hitt had TD runs of 67 and 47 yards in the period while Jonathan Embree added a 36-yard TD strike to Franklin Ray and Maurico Rivera capped the scoring with a 23-yard interception return for a score.
Phantoms 31, Event 14…Tony Strait overcame 4 interceptions to throw for 348 yards and 4 TD’s to lift the Phantoms to victory. David Mitzel had 123 yards and two TD receptions as the Phantoms improved to 13-1 on the year.
