The Bombers’ unbeaten start kept gathering force Sunday, as they built a 31-0 halftime lead and finished off an emphatic 52-8 win over the Bandits. Burlington is now 8-0, owns a W8 streak and remains first in its division at 4-0. The result was another forceful statement from a team that has allowed 60 points through eight games.
The Bombers opened the scoring with Donald Hass’s 21-yard touchdown run, then struck again with eight seconds left in the first quarter: Jose Hager found Robert Lucero for a 33-yard score. Hager and Lucero connected again early in the second, this time for 47 yards, to make it 21-0.
Burlington’s advantage grew through complementary football. Robert Johnson kicked a 45-yard field goal, and Hass added a three-yard touchdown run with 32 seconds remaining in the half. The Bombers carried a 31-0 lead into the break, with the Bandits struggling to move the ball on the ground and converting only three of 14 third downs for the game.
The attack stayed productive after halftime. Edward Garrett ran in a 17-yard touchdown in the third quarter, and Hager’s fourth-quarter pass to Lucero made it 44-0. Hager then found Grant Covington on the two-point conversion. Johnson added field goals of 47 and 36 yards, completing all three of his attempts.
Hager finished with 337 passing yards and three touchdowns, without an interception, and added 39 rushing yards. Lucero had 111 receiving yards and two scores. Garrett contributed 126 rushing yards and 81 receiving yards, while Hass finished with 70 rushing yards and two touchdowns. As a team, the Bombers piled up 268 rushing yards alongside 337 through the air.
The shutout bid ended when Alfred Pitts connected with Ken Olivares for a 75-yard touchdown with 6:34 left. Olivares broke free of coverage for the score, and the Bandits added a two-point conversion. Burlington answered with Johnson’s final field goal to set the margin at 52-8. A late Garrett fumble, recovered by John Stevens, was a blemish on an otherwise commanding afternoon.
For William McClure’s club, the win reinforced a season-long combination of offensive balance and defensive control. The Bombers had scoring contributions on the ground, through the air and from Johnson’s reliable leg; the Bandits managed just 28 rushing yards and 151 passing yards overall. Burlington leaves Week 8 still unbeaten and with its division lead intact.
