The Burlington Bombers extended their winning streak to five games with a 29-17 win over the Dragons on October 25 at home. Under head coach William McClure, the Bombers improved to 7-1 overall and remained undefeated in the division at 3-0, solidifying their hold on first place.

The Dragons, coached by Dennis Casey, fell to 1-7 and 0-4 in the division, struggling to halt the Bombers' offense.

Burlington’s initial drive set the tone early. Quarterback Benjamin Massey connected on a 37-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Stephen Brown just under four minutes into the first quarter. Robert Johnson’s extra point put the Bombers up 7-0. Despite Michael Kelley’s injury during the scoring play, he was able to return later.

The Dragons responded in the second quarter with a rushing touchdown from Larry Stackhouse, narrowing the deficit to 7-6 after a successful Henry McFadden PAT. However, the Bombers answered immediately with a 34-yard field goal by Robert Johnson to take a 10-7 lead.

Later in the second, Massey found tight end Robert Lucero for a 49-yard touchdown, extending the lead to 17-7 at halftime.

The Bombers' defense contributed significantly in the second half, forcing turnovers and applying pressure. Despite a fumble recovery by the Dragons at the start of the third quarter, Burlington responded with a one-yard rushing touchdown from Edward Garrett, who also had a receiving touchdown earlier, pushing the lead to 24-7.

A pivotal moment in the fourth quarter saw defensive end Wayne Schultz sack Dragons quarterback Ronald Anderson in the end zone for a safety, increasing the Bombers' advantage to 26-7.

The Dragons managed a late touchdown to make it 26-13, but a field goal by the Bombers sealed the 29-17 victory.

Massey completed 26 of 41 passes for 354 yards and two touchdowns, throwing no interceptions. Running back Edward Garrett contributed 26 rushing yards and a touchdown on the ground, in addition to 51 receiving yards and one receiving touchdown. Stephen Brown was a key receiver with 72 yards and a touchdown, and tight end Robert Lucero added 76 yards receiving along with a rushing touchdown.

Defensively, the Bombers recorded five sacks, forced one fumble, recovered two, and intercepted one pass. The Dragons managed only two sacks and one forced fumble.

Burlington incurred just one penalty for 15 yards, while the Dragons were penalized twice for 19 yards.

With this win, the Bombers remain atop the division standings as they aim to continue their strong form in the 2065 regular season.
