TALONS DODGE ASSASSINATION

Brandon Zamora pounced on a football in the endzone for a score and Michael Belli hauled in a trio of Jesse Hahn touchdown passes to lift the Talons to a 31-10 victory over the Assassins in a high-powered cross-conference showdown in Week 3. Hahn actually dind’t have a very good night, connecting on just 11 of his 30 passing attempts, but the ones he hit on were deadly as Belli finished with 144 receiving yards. Elsewhere in the EFL…

Event 27, Snappers 16
…Steven Jimenez threw for 329 yards and three TD’s while Jacob Parish had 6 receptions for 169 yards and a score to help Maine win. Louis Wilson gets props for 12 receptions and 146 yards in the loss for the Snappers.

Dragons 31, Crusaders 12…in another clash of high-powered playoff teams from a year ago, it was David Puddy’s trio of third quarter TD passes that helped the Dragons break it open. Puddy finished with 397 yards and 4 TDs in all. John Claypoole had 101 yards receiving while Joseph Overholt settled for 97 yards with a pair of TD receptions.

Bandits 17, Wampas 12…Santa Fe scored a pair of third quarter touchdowns to take a 17-12 win and deny the Wampas a 2-game winning streak. Charles Pagan’s 89-yard run late in the third quarter was the back-breaker by the Bandits and part of a 129-yard night.

Kings 23, Islanders 3…Lyon out-yarded Hawai’I by a 361-96 margin to take the W. James Schendel had 101 yards rushing and a score on 24 carries. William Coley had 2 of the Kings’ 4 interceptions on the night.

Americans 20, Cobras 10…Michael “Power to the” Peoples returned an interception 13 yards for a TD as the Americans doubled up the Cobras, who were unable to conjure any fourth quarter magic this time around. Jerry Hale added a TD reception for the Americans.

Spartans 29, Marauders 7…Nathaniel Finley threw for 299 yards and a pair of TD’s as Toronto bounced back from a Week 2 loss to dominate Reno. Francis Jimenez’s 35-yard reception in the final minute of play was all that kept the Marauders from being shut out in this one.

Wallabies 16, Thunder 13 (OT)
…Adam Donnelly connected from 30 yards out with 89 seconds remaining in extra time to allow Perth to escape Tacoma with an overtime win. “I’m not sure we deserved to win it, but we’ll take it,” said the Wallabies’ coach afterward.

Riptide 27, Coyotes 9…Wesley Greenwell ran for a pair of scores and Robert Burkett also threw an 80-yard strike to Claudio Chambers to help San Diego to a victory.

Geechee 25, Golden Pterodactyls 3…Everett Lor’s foot remained attached despite kicking 6 FG’s for the Geechee in the victory. Included in that amazing display of accuracy were a pair of 57 yarders in the second half and a 54-yard FG to open the contest. John Wilson had a 39-yard reception for the game’s only touchdown.

Hefty Buffalo 16, Bombers 3…Frank “Lloyd” Wright hauled in a 5-yard TD reception in a contest that saw the two teams combine for just 16 first downs as field position ruled the day. Scott Phillps with 75 yards of rushing in the contest for Fort Drum.

Crush 17, Red Rocks 14…Joseph Burke threw a pair of first-half TD passes and Canton held on from there in a narrow win against Coos Bay. Brian Armstrong threw for 310 yards for Coos Bay, but had 3 costly interceptions, including one in the red zone in the waning minutes of the contest. That throw did set up teammate Kevin Cooper’s sack for a safety to draw the Rocks within a field goal, but the ensuing drive stalled and the Crush were able to run out the clock before Coos Bay could get another try. Burke ended with 279 yards for the Crush, including 112 yards and a score to Thomas McDaniel.

Wild 24, Stampede 3…John Richardson threw a pair of first quarter touchdowns as Milwaukee jumped on top and never really was threatened in the contest. Phillip Gordon added a 52-yard TD run late as the Wild outgained St. Louis 461-119 in this one.

Witches 40, Bulldogs 3…Jonathan Embree was 32-for-36 for 357 yards and 4 TD’s while helping Salem score points on its first five possessions on the way to the week’s most lopsided result. Kenneth Eller had a pair of scoring receptions.

Burn 27, Twisters 12… Jose Engelhardt delivered a 98-yard strike to Thomas Pauling in the second quarter to begin Boise’s scoring and Jason Moreira added a pair of short dives across the goal line in the second half to lead the Burn to a 15-point victory.

Phantoms 40, Tennessee 6…Harry Knopp found Lawrence Owen for a pair of third-quarter TD’s and Edward Huff found time to run it in from 4 yards out during that same period as the Phantoms transitioned from a narrow 9-3 halftime lead into a commanding 30-3 edge entering the final 15 minutes. Who says vulgarity-laced halftime tirades don’t work? In all, Owen caught 3 TD passes for 118 total yards and Knopp finished with 335 yards through the air. Kent Mahood had 2 of the Phantoms’ 5 interceptions in the contest.

TALONS CARVE PHANTOMS TO STAY PERFECT

Jesse Hahn threw TD passes to Michael Belli and Robert Hayden and the Talon defense held Parlor City out of the end zone until just before the 2-minute warning at the close of the game to take a 21-11 victory in a battle of unbeaten teams. Hahn’s final numbers weren’t earth-shattering as he had just 123 yards on 19-for-32 passing, but they counted. James Castillo added a short TD run as well for Tallahassee. Elsewhere around the league…

Assassins 26, Coyotes 0…George Spradlin and Micheal Owen each ran for touchdowns for Columbus City, which also got four FG’s from Harold Hill in the shutout win over Mt. Washington. The Assassins held a 454-114 yardage advantage in the game, including a decisive 262-24 edge on the ground. Ralph Blake rumbled for 191 yards to account for most of the differential.

Wampas 29, Bulldogs 6…Gerald Peters opened the scoring with a TD pass to George Weiss and Robert Teets ran in for a third-quarter score as Aspen won its second game of the season 29-6 over Bennington. The Wampas enjoyed a nearly 14-minute advantage in time of possession in the contest.

Wild 65, Crush 10…Milwaukee sent a message in the division, rolling to a one-sided win after posting 37 second-half points. Jon Jackson set the tone early, blocking punt and recovering it for a 6-yard scamper to paydirt. That was just the beginning. Phillip Gordon ran for 141 yards and 4 TD’s on just 15 carries. James Wood didn’t score but added 111 rushing yards. John Richardson was 20-for-38 for 325 yards and 3 TD’s, including one to that Gordon character. Meanwhile, Canton QB Joseph Burke was busy heaving 5 interceptions to help fuel the rout.

Burn 18, Golden Pterodactyls 16…Boise took advantage of six Nathan Rizzo field goals, all from 41 yards or longer, to topple Star City by an 18-16 count that needed a late Pterodactyl TD to make it that close. Three of Rizzo’s kicks came from 48 yards out. He also had a 56 yarder, a 42 yarder and a 41 yarder. He may have been tiring as he missed a 42-yard kick late as he tried to go 7-for-7.

Tennessee 16, Riptide 13…Jerry Belk threw a 78-yard strike to Rosario Ramos in the second quarter to help lift the team with no nickname to a 16-13 game that needed San Diego’s last-minute 53-yard TD pass to Claudio Chambers to get that close. Ramos finished with 211 yards on just five receptions as Welk threw for 319 yards total.

Dragons 33, Geechee 31…David Puddy threw for 404 yards and a trio of TD’s for Glendora. Not to be outdone, Edward Jackson countered with 289 yards and 3 TD’s of his own as the Dragons edged the Geechee in an entertaining score-filled game. After playing to a slim 17-16 lead at halftime, the Dragons erupted for 16 consecutive points to open the second half as Stephen Riley had field goals of 51, 46 and 44 yards with a Walter Gowen TD reception mixed in. The Geechee struck back with a 65-yard reception by Clyde Simons and a 67-yard reception by John Wilson in the final 3 minutes. Glendora successfully ran out the final 2:54 to escape.

Red Rocks 27, Cobras 13…Coos Bay held the Cobras scoreless in the second half to score a two-touchdown victory. Brian Armstrong was 16-for-24 for 265 yards and a pair of TD’s for Coos Bay. Vincent Vick recovered his own fumble, which had bounced forward into the end zone for the first Red Rocks TD.

Event 16, Islanders 7…Harold Cuthbertson hit a pair of fourth quarter field goals to help insulate the margin as the Maine Event downed Hawai’I 16-7 in a meeting of the nation’s upper right and lower left corners. The Islanders actually held a 264-184 edge in yardage in this one, but were never able to overcome the damage from two early interceptions or mount a serious drive in the second half.

Marauders 6, Bandits 3…It wasn’t pretty. It didn’t feature many points. It wasn’t overly exciting at times, but thanks to Christopher Barnes’ 39-yard kick with 6 ½ minutes to play, it was a Reno victory and that’s all anyone cares about in that city right now. Matthew Schrock caught 9 ***** for 94 yards to pace the Marauder offense.

Wallabies 34, Bombers 15…Michael Gee threw a trio of third quarter TD passes to help Perth blow open a 13-3 halftime lead and cruise to their third victory of the year. Gee finished with 261 yards on a modest 25-for-46.

Spartans 36, Snappers 0…Toronto generated 566 yards of offense and held Natchitoches off the scoreboard for a commanding win. Nathaniel Finley threw for 487 yards and 3 TD’s as a trio of Spartans finished with 100 or more yards receiving, led by Russell Vera’s 141. Milton Sheets added 5 FG’s.

Crusaders 30, Thunder 7…California owned a 255-26 edge along the ground as they rolled out to 30 points to open the game before allowing the Thunder to crack the scoring column, much to fans chagrin. The damage came early and often as California had TD’s on its first four possessions of the game. Duncan Meyer ran for 156 yards and a score. Jacob Perez was 25-for-30 in the air for 222 and 3 TD’s.

Stampede 28, Hefty Buffalo 0…St. Louis got a pair of rushing touchdowns from Jerry Bradshaw and 119 yards along the ground from Duncan Cisco to help pave the way in a win. Chuck Stetson added a sack for safety as the defense didn’t just throw a shutout, but also contributed to the point total in this one.

Witches 14, Twisters 14 (OT)…Salem scored touchdowns on two of its first three possessions then never got close to sniffing the end zone the remainder of the night as Arkansas pinned Salem inside its own 15 on 10 of 13 possessions from the mid-second quarter on. That allowed enough time for John Eskew to haul in a 4-yard TD pass with just under 7 minutes to play. Andrew Matthews added a 35-yard FG with just under 4 minutes to tie the game, but he missed a 40-yarder in the final minute of OT that could have won the game for the Twisters.

Kings 24, Americans 14…Lyon’s James Schendel answered Kerry Elmore’s 40-yard TD reception with a 75-yard dash to paydirt to silence Rochester fans and help pace the Kings to a win. The Americans had pulled within a field goal with just under 9 ½ minutes to play before Schendel’s dagger. He finished with 144 yards on the ground to go with 24 yards on a trio of pass receptions as the Americans were handed their first loss of the season.

After 4 games…unbeaten teams are down to Glendora and Tallahassee (quick fact--they don’t face off in the regular season). Teams still looking for win No. 1 include the Islanders, the Snappers, the Twisters, the Bulldogs, the Bombers, the Thunder and the Coyotes.

Lack of sustained drives really kills us. We can’t seem to keep the momentum going, usually because of stupid penalties. Onward and upward. :)

After coming down with a severe case of fumble-itus three times in the first half, Phantoms head coach Anthony Hayes has demanded that Leroy Rivera correctly hold the football with one end at the elbow and the fingers over the other end with the arm locked tight against his side........you know pop-warner level fundamentals. The football must never leave Leroy's hands all week for any reason. Coach Hayes has issued a high level reward for any teammate, other than Rivera, that brings him back the football.

LATE INTERCEPTION SAVES CRUSH

Mark Anderson’s end zone interception with 68 seconds to play secured victory for the Canton Crush and sent the Arkansas Twisters to a soul-crushing fourth defeat this season. Arkansas looked like it was going to break into the win column as they drove from their own 44 deep into Crush territory with time ticking down. On first-and-goal from the 1 though, quarterback Russell Gargano overthrew running back Louie Easley in the front of the end zone, lofting the ball into Anderson’s hands for an easy pick. Joseph Burke had 284 yards and a TD for Canton. Kevin Sanchez added a touchdown run as the Crush climbed to 4-1 this season. Elsewhere in the EFL…

Event 13, Kings 6…Pedro Parson’s 22-yard run for a score provided the scoring difference as the Maine Event took down the Kings 13-6. The Event held a 2-to-1 yardage advantage in the contest as the defense held Lyon to 149 yards on the night.

Wallabies 20, Wampas 13…James Hennessey had a 74-yard run for a TD and Larry marmon hauled in an 18-yard pass to help Perth jump to a 17-0 first-half lead. A late Aspen TD pass in the final 30 seconds made the final score closer than the actual game was.

Bandits 17, Bombers 9…Charles Pagan had 166 all-purpose yards, including a TD run of 91 yards as San Diego kept Brooklyn looking for its first win in this act of sim-on-sim violence.

Americans 23, Thunder 6…Alexander Thomas was 21-for-24 for 177 yards and a TD as Rochester rolled to victory. Kerry Elmore added a touchdown run for the Americans in the win.

Snappers 13, Marauders 0…Leo Griffin pulled in a 53-yard TD pass and Robert Yorke booted a pair of fourth-quarter field goals as the Snappers scored all of their points after intermission to register the season’s first win. Griffin finished with 150 receiving yards as Jason Rodriguez threw for 265 yards for Natchitoches.

Geechee 48, Burn 26…Charleston got the better of an offense-laden contest with Boise, scoring touchdowns on its first four possessions. Edward Jackson ended 20-for-23 for 402 yards and 5 TD’s through the air. John Wilson pulled in two of those scores as part of a 231-yard night receiving. Jose Engelhardt had a good night for the Burn, throwing for 286 yards and 2 scores on 57 attempts, but it just wasn’t enough on a night where the Geechee punted only twice.

Riptide 26, Coyotes 7…Man Taggart had a 29-yard pick six and the Riptide raced to a 20-0 lead to keep the Coyotes winless on the season. Wesley Greenwell added 133 yards and a score along the ground for San Diego.

Wild 33, Stampede 7…Phillip Gordon rushed for 191 yards and a score on just 13 carries while John Richardson threw for 202 yards and 3 scores for Milwaukee, which continued to go Wild on the scoreboard for another week. Jerry Bradshaw scored the only TD of the night for the Stampede.

Phantoms 37, Hefty Buffalo 6…Leroy Rivera got back into the good graces of the Phantom coaching staff with a pair of rushing touchdowns and 170 all-purpose yards as Parlor City rolled to 4-1 on the season. The Phantoms owned a 544-114 yardage edge as Harry Knopp threw for exactly 400 yards and 2 scores.

Witches 24, Bulldogs 3…Jonathan Embree threw a trio of touchdown passes as part of a 385-yard night through the air as Salem rolled to victory. Edmond Walker, Franklin Ray and Roy Hitt were on the receiving end of the strikes.

Assassins 6, Golden Pterodactyls 0…A capacity crowd of 110,000 (!!) watched Harold Hill kick field goals of 56 and 30 yards for Columbus City. In a game featuring just 312 yards of total offense, only 114 of which was by the Assassins, Hill’s leg was a necessary weapon.

Talons 24, Tennessee 9…Jesse Hahn threw TD passes to Scott Barr and James Castillo in the second half to pull away from a narrow 10-9 halftime edge. Hahn finished with 208 yards through the air. Jerry Belk was 23-for-32 for 222 and a score for Tennessee.

Spartans 33, Islanders 18…Karl Demelo kicked six field goals for Hawai’I, but it wasn’t nearly enough as the Spartans threw 33 points on the board, including James Meade’s 27-yard pick six. Nathaniel Finley threw for 296 yards and a pair of scores, one of them to Adam Bennett, who had 101 yards receiving. Kenneth Gonzaels attempted 65 passes for the Islanders.

Dragons 33, Red Rocks 7…Add four more TD passes to David Puddy’s count this season as the Dragons roared to a 33-7 win over Coos Bay. Puddy finished with 304 yards through the air, including 153 to John Claypoole. Sean Salerno hauled in 2 of the scoring throws. Puddy leads the EFL with 15 TD passes this season, four more than the next-highest QB total thus far.

Crusaders 28, Cobras 7…Lloyd Braun went crazy with seven field goals in the contest and Marc McNamee added a 2-yard TD run for the Crusaders. Arthur “The Rock” Alcaraz raced for a 67-yard touchdown reception for the Cobras, who did an admirable job of keeping California out of the end zone for much of the game, but had no answer for Braun.

Don't you worry Renu. Real life comes first, and you need a break from all that hard work you do for us. I have an idea..........how bout for this week one player from each game can write up their game if they want. I will start with the **** of a WILD barn burner game that PCP just had in Milwaukee.

PHANTOMS NARROWLY ESCAPE THE WILDLANDS!

The Game of the Week for week six was no disappointment for football fans as fireworks lit up the sky, and the scoreboard, for both teams. The Milwaukee Wild charged in on the Phantoms from the opening kickoff and dominated most of the first half. The home team defense stuffed and stalled the PCP offense making them punt on their first 5 possessions. With under 10 minutes left to play in the second quarter QB John Richardson had thrown 2 touchdown passes to Jacob Pfaff and Philip Gordon respectively and the Wild were up 17 - 0. The home crowd for the Wild were in a state of pandemonium until Harry Knopp and the Phantoms offense came alive with 2 touchdown passes, both, to Jackie Schaffer to end the first half at 17 - 14. The total of 5 unanswered scores from the Parlor City Phantoms continued as Harry Knopp opened up the 3rd quarter with yet another touchdown pass to Jackie Schaffer for 79 yards. The next possession found Leroy Rivera with the football as he ran it in from 5 yards out bringing the score at 17 - 28 PCP. The Wild mounted a valiant comeback in the 4th with another touchdown pass from John Richardson to Jacob Pfaff for 58 yards. Milwaukee retook the lead when George Gandy kicked his 3rd field goal through the uprights leaving the score at 28 - 29 Wild with under 3 minutes left in the game. After the ensuing kickoff, the Phantoms took 1 minute and 34 seconds to march down the field and have Edward Huff run the rock in for the winning touchdown. Milwaukee did get the ball back with 41 seconds left, but ran out of time. Final Score 36 - 29 PCP.

Milwaukee Wild QB John Richardson was an absolute wizard from the pocket in the losing effort going 32 for 42 with 451 passing yards and 3 touchdowns. For the Parlor City Phantoms QB Harry Knopp threw 21 for 43 with 357 passing yards and 3 touchdowns. MVP goes to the WR who caught all three of Knopps scoring passes, and that would be Jackie Schaffer having 7 receptions for an amazing 237 receiving yards. MFN analyst Ian Beymer was able to get a few words from him in the locker room after the game.

Schaffer: " Yea you know... this is what happens when you go and spend a bunch of money bringing in, so called, elite veteran WRs from FA and then I all of a sudden get my starting position taken away......... I don't care how many passes I dropped in training camp, I'm a frackin star! Remember when I caught that pass in the League Championship Game against the Crusaders and high stepped it in from like 30 yards out? Well I don't really care that the defender covering me gave up in the middle of that play because he saw the flag being thrown while the ball was still in the air, I'm still a frackin star! That's exactly why I had my LC Ring from last season fitted for my right middle finger like this!........ See?!?!? "

Event slips past the Rocks

By TarquinTheDark
9/29/2019 1:51 pm
Going into a game with Coos Bay favored by 8 points, Maine knew they had to make a statement early to break the Red Rocks morale. Pedro Parson opened the game with a 108 yd kickoff return. Coos Bay pushed back with a strong positional game eventually scoring a touchdown late in the 1st ... which was promptly answered by another Parson touchdown return, straight down the hashmarks for 94 yards.

Overall, Coos Bay outgained Maine by five 1st downs and 84 yards. Standouts were RB Elmer Montgomery with 124 all-purpose yards, and WR Ronald Canchola with 4 receptions for 69 yards.

Maine MLB Ernest Young snagged two interceptions to limit the damage. They used Parson, Micheal Parker, and Myron Dean interchangeably at RB to maintain possession as long as they could, with occasional passing strikes to Jacob Parish, who made 4 receptions for 90 yards.

The Red Rocks were able to close the gap to 20-24 in the third quarter, but Maine hung on for the win.

Event 31, Red Rocks 20.

COYOTES SNAP 25-GAME SKID

Daniel Olmos took a Fred Coleman pass 75 yards for a score and Charles Gonzalez added on field goals of 35 and 38 yards as an exuberant Mt. Washington crowd was rewarded for its faithfulness by witnessing the Coyotes snap a 25-game losing streak 13-3 at the expense of the Hefty Buffalo. Coleman finished with 202 yards passing in the contest, 113 of which went to Olmos.

Leonard Womack connected for a 17-yard field goal on the first Fort Drum possession of the night, but went 0-for-2 after that. Elsewhere in a crazy night around the league…

Wild 31, Dragons 24…Philip Gordon ran for a 30-yard touchdown with mere seconds to spare as Milwaukee stunned Glendora and handed the Dragons their first loss of the season. It was an absolutely stellar game that witnessed four lead changes in the fourth quarter as the teams traded punch and counterpunch, starting with Ross Schwarz tackle of Gordon in the end zone for a safety that lifted the Dragons up 18-17. David Frazier’s 13-yard reception threw the Wild back in front, although the conversion attempt failed. David Puddy seemed to win the contest for Glendora with a 16-yard TD pass to Joseph Overholt with just over one minute remaining, but it was too much time. The Wild marched 75 yards on six plays to secure the win. Gordon finished with 170 yards on 24 carries. John Richardson threw for 282 yards and 3 scores for the Wild. The Dragons countered with a 352-yard, 2 TD night from Puddy. Overholt finished with both of those scoring receptions as he, along with teammate Sean Salerno finished with 103 yards receiving, four fewer than the Wild’s Jacob Pfaff.

Phantoms 27, Crush 12…Leroy Rivera ran for a pair of 9-yard scores in the fourth quarter to help Parlor City break open a close contest for a 27-12 victory. Harry Knopp added 298 yards passing and a TD as the defending league champs move to 6-1 while the Crush slip to 4-3 on the year.

Stampede 20, Twisters 13…James Palmer hit Jerry Bradshaw and Duncan Cisco for scores in the first half to help lift St. Louis to a 20-13 win. Palmer finished with 220 passing yards in the contest, 101 of which went to Bradshaw.

Talons 34, Riptide 6…Anthony Dunn rushed for 101 yards and a TD while quarterback Jesse Hahn threw for 243 yards and 3 scores in a lopsided Talon victory. Tallahassee remains unbeaten on the season with a 7-0 mark.

Burn 26, Golden Pterodactyls 10…John Grossman caught a 41-yard TD pas from Jose Engelhardt and Jason Moreira found his way in from 3 yards out to help Boise overcome Star City. Grossman hauled in 10 of Engelhardt’s 18 completions for 127 yards in the contest.

Witches 33, Tennessee 12…Johathan Embree threw for 355 yards and a pair of touchdowns, both to Edmond Walker, as Salem raced past Tennessee. Walker finished with 113 yards on four receptions. Franklin Ray added 148 all-purpose yards in the contest as Salem moves to 4-2-1.

Event 28, Bulldogs 7…In the span of 90 seconds in the second half, Pedro Parson scored a pair of touchdowns to help the Maine Event blow open what had been a 14-7 halftime contest. Parson ran the ball in from 7 yards out early in the third quarter. Moments later, he took a Steven Jimenez pass 60 yards to the house. The Bulldogs never fully recovered. Jimenez finished with 304 yards passing.

Kings 21, Bandits 3…hooray for kickers as Wendell Jessen booted seven FG’s in the contest to lift Lyon to a 5-2 mark. The Kings owned a 317-98 advantage in yardage in the contest. James Schendel was a workhorse with 30 carries for 110 yards in the contest for Lyon.

Wampas 16, Islanders 14…Willie McCaffrey kicked a 35-yard field goal just before the two-minute warning to lift Aspen to a narrow victory over the Islanders. Hawai’I had one final opportunity, but saw it fizzle when QB Kenneth Gonzales tossed his third interception at the Wampa 35 with 38 seconds remaining in the game.

Cobras 24, Snappers 17…Anthony Ford threw TD passes to a trio of different receivers as the Cobras held on to win a battle of 2-4 teams by a touchdown. Terry Melvin’s 9-yard scoring run and the subsequent 2-point conversion pass to Frank Turner with just over 2 minutes to play in the game brought Natchitoches to within seven, but they threw an interception on their final possession to seal their fate. Ford finished 17-for-20 for 225 yards in the contest.

Wallabies 30, Crusaders 18…The Wallabies were beneficiaries of six California turnovers as they scored a 30-18 win in a game that the statistics say they had no business being in. Jason Montgomery returned a fumble 11 yards for a Perth TD to directly make the Crusaders for one giveaway, but the team also turned two other miscues into short-field touchdowns. Strong safety Rick Mayon had three fumble recoveries for the Wallabies, who were outgained 493-144 in the contest. [editor’s note: I am so sorry Wolfkill, that was brutal.]

Americans 16, Spartans 9…Kerry Elmore had a 21-yard TD reception just before halftime for the only visit by either side into the end zone as Rochester edged past Toronto. Daniel Dehner added fourth quarter field goals of 47 and 52 yards to help seal the deal.

Marauders 9, Bombers 6…Christopher Barnes’ 50-yard field goal with 9 minutes to play proved to be the difference maker as Reno toppled Brooklyn. As the score would imply, the offenses of both sides struggled as Reno held a slim 194-160 advantage in offensive yardage. Joshua Maynard threw for 188 yards for the victors.

Red Rocks 13, Thunder 6…James Johnson took a Brian Armstrong pass 61 yards to paydirt for what proved to be the winning score as Coos Bay defended for the final 8 minutes of the contest to take the win. Elmer Montgomery ran for 115 yards on 24 carries for the Red Rocks. Johnson ended with 123 receiving yards.

Geechee 35, Assassins 18…Edwin Jackson threw touchdown passes on five of Charleston’s first seven possessions as the Geechee flew out to a 35-9 halftime lead and coasted home from there. John Wilson was on the receiving end of four of those scoring throws, finishing with 223 receiving yards as Jackson ended the game 18-for-27 for 326 yards passing.
