Just a note on the end of the season, but did anyone else notice the plethora of potential all-pro wide receivers that came out of this year's draft. Just totally off the charts.

You know what, I do remember Grandpa giving me a little advice several seasons ago when I first started. Mainly it was advice for defense because there are a few quirks in the simulation that dont neccesarily follow real life football.....like cover 2 not working right against plays it should. Other things I figured out by trial and error. There are different levels of game prep. After a few weeks in the season, you can look at their team stats and see what they do on the average. Then you can scan their depth chart and try to use logic for strategies. Then there is that middle button on every simulated game that shows you every play as well as the selected plays for both teams. After all of that study and information, your opponent can still trick you by changing a few things....you know the chess match. "That's why they play the game."

Some might think it pathetic if Grandpa or others give advice to new players, but I disagree. A new player might be trying to use real football logic....and keep getting burned by the B&B plays or wonder why their cover 3 or 4 defense keeps giving up big yardage on 3rd and long. Even after a new player gets a few of "Grandpa's rules", there is another level of prep and strategy they must come up with themselves....especially in the playoffs. Letting new players in on just a few things makes every league more competitive and.....it just feels right.

Nice job Phaldun - I'll take some small reward out of how closely we played you this season, but you earned all the accolades, great run you're on!

Also congrats to you GDB, another fine season for the Dragons

Referring to this statement, of course:

Why is this not surprising to me?!

Building up a little army of miscreants that never had to study or learn from their mistakes. Spoon fed success. Smdh

PATHETIC

Making suggestions on studying your playbook after 4 or 5 games is a helluva lot different than telling someone what the best plays are.

Making recommendations on what types of players to look for in Free Agency is a helluva lot different than telling someone who to cut & who to sign, too.

"Help" is one thing. Being fed with a silver spoon is entirely different.

One is acceptable. The other is "PATHETIC"

CrazyRazor, I actually have a lot of respect for you on the same level as Grandpa. You do bring up a valid point on your defense. I believe it was only one PM message from Grandpa to me a few seasons ago. It was just a smudge of advice for defense. As far as recruiting, signing, and figuring out some of the B&B plays... I stumbled, bungled through that myself. I had to figure out how to stop receivers from releasing so often on the B&B plays myself, and of course I still get burned by them at times.

I also agree with Crazy here. Perhaps the veterans of this league can meet new players at the gate, and open it for them, but it should be up to the new player to charge through into the fray themselves after. All I can do is explain my experience with Grandpa... and for me he did it the right way exactly how I've described. Grandpa met me at the gate and creaked it open a bit, but after that I charged in myself. I also got a bit of advice from others in the Community General MFN forum. Advice from players that I have never faced off against yet.

I looked back at messages between Grandpa and I.... and he actually did give me advice on my roster, but I didn't take it. Three seasons ago in this league, I took the Phantoms over and they were the worst bad news bears type of team seriously. Plus the salary cap was all jacked up. I wanted to keep a few of the high paid O-linemen and the MLB Gosney, but Grandpa's advice was to basically have a fire sale because linemen are easy to replace. Well, I just couldn't do that.

In that situation, I would agree with Grandpa or anyone else giving advice when a new player takes over a bad news bears team with a severely jacked up salary situation. Hmmmm maybe it just comes down to.............some new players will need more advice and help than others. I dunno what do you guys think?

Oh, man, I got nuffin to say about Gdad that's off base. When we got into leagues with other, he gave me a touch of friendly wisdom. I appreciated the **** outta that. I kinda might not take every word to heart, but you can bet your bottom I listen! Honestly, we got a great group of owners here in the EFL and there is some of you guys that are bound for the Hall of Fame as owners/GMs. I think I have learned more from just reading forums and listening to conversation around you guys in this league than any other.

And as far as what I meant by the "Grandad Rules", I was referencing it more towards like the "Jordan Rules" that the old Bad Boys- Pistons had about MJ back in the late 80s/early 90s. (Lol, I reckon you older guys caught the meaning, but you younger bunch might not grasp it). It is just kind of my general thinking when I listed those in the earlier post. It's like a checklist for me anytime I have to have a game sim against Gdad if I even have a chance of winning. I have played against him in various leagues and usually is always a showtime matchup. His teams are always a BEAST!
But it just goes back to what the G.O.A.T. always used to say...."you wanna be The Man; you gotta beat The Man....WWWWWOOOOOO!!!!" Ric Flair
