Had a good close game with the Ai managed Yard Dogs, won 20-14.
Offense .... 30 plays used. 5wr/3, 1rb4wr/2 plays-5, 113/7p/11, 122/1/3, 2rb3wr/2/4, 212/10/25, 221 - 0, 2rb3te(GL) 4/9, 311 3/10.
The GL offense was used much more than I would like, 9 times. It was used in situations that I dont want it to be used. Will make sure rule is in place to prevent that by next game. The GL offense should only be used in very short yardage (0-2) situations, not on 1st and 10. The 1te4wr personnel was not used and neither was the 221, so will try to get at least 1 play from each used in the next game. If you have not broken down your play use by personnel, its a good idea to do it now and then, its not hard to do. That really gives you a good view of your play diversity. I will be working on getting a more even balance between them next game, which will also be a bit easier to do by limiting the use of the GL offense plays.
Defense ...... 17 plays, much better than the last game, with the goal being 24 at this point.
Goaline was overused , 2 plays 14 times (10 & 4) not much I can do about that as the GL is automtically used against the GL offense, which the Ai coach calls way too many times and in non GL situations. Normal - 12 plays, 26 times. Good spread across the 12 plays with the most being 4 times by 1 play. Nickel - 2 plays, 20 times (14 & 5) got work to do on that, no play should be used more than 6 tops. Should be more like 10 plays used 20 times.
Dime - one play used only once, another thing to correct, Dime should be used at least 10 times with 4 or 5 plays selected. Quarter - 0 another error.
So, thats it and a lot of adjustment and change to make on defense. Will be interesting to see what happens next game with the changes in place. I will not be doing a breakdown like this very often, but it is a good idea to check how you are spreading out the plays on top of doing a regular count, like what those who post it do. Its also good to do this so that others can see and compare. cheers!
Following up on GrandadB's post, here are some statistics for my team through 13 games of the current season as it relates to our play diversity goals:
Offense
------------
2-1-2 = 21 plays per game
1-1-3 = 17 plays per game
2-0-3 = 11 plays per game
2-2-1 = 9 plays per game
3-1-1 = 6 plays per game
0-0-5 = 5 plays per game
2-3-0 = 4 plays per game
1-2-2 = 4 plays per game
1-0-4 = 3 plays per game (includes the 0-1-4 formation)
Also, my game plan called 25 total "Long Passes" among these plays, a rate of 2 long passes per game (plays that would never be called in a standard league not using play diversity). So, I am sprinkling them in and, every now and then, you connect on one. Play selection is important here.
Defense
------------
4 - 3 Defense = 18 plays per game
Nickel Defense = 13 plays per game
Dime Defense = 10 plays per game
Quarter Defense = 6 plays per game
Goal Line Defense = 7 plays per game (inflated by Ai teams use of Goal Line offense)
Our play diversity guidelines also discuss the use of defensive secondary formations seldom used in standard leagues (most notably the 3-Deep Man, 4-Deep Man, 2-Deep Zone, 3-Deep Zone, and 4-Deep Zone), and direct that they should be used, at least somewhat, in this league. For my team through 13 games of the current season, those five defensive secondary formations noted above were collectively used by my team an average of 8 times total per game.
